Rampart rifle

Wall or rampart Rifle, Whitworth system, model 1864.

The round barrel is very thick and very heavy. Calibre 17,5 mm

The barrel has six concentric right hand grooves.

Close to the muzzle, a bracelet, attached to the barrel, carries the front sight protected laterally by two ''horns''.

In front of the rearsight, another bracelet features a pivot with a hinge which is used to retain the weapon when shooting downwards using a special stake.

The rearsight is the same one as on the 1841 or 1853/67 rifles.

The upper part carries the bead for 1.400 meters.

The breech box is screwed to the barrel; the breech block contains the movable chamber , which is raised using a small fork.

The breech block is wedged by one corner with a spring lever.

The lock is similar to the 1841 smooth bore rifle.

Stock is similar to the 1841 or 1853/67 rifle; the barrel is not protected by a wood stock.

The Mountings are made of iron; the trigger guard has a handle in order to support the thumb of the right hand when one pulls the trigger.

Weight of the weapon: 15 kg

Comes with a threaded ramrod with reinforced end handle.
